FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS THE COE-CORNELL YOUNG
ALUMNI CHALLENGE?
The Coe-Cornell Young Alumni Challenge is about loyalty.
The Challenge is based on the percentage of each school’s
recent graduates that make a gift to Coe from July 1,
2009 through June 30, 2010 and Cornell June 1, 2009
through May 31, 2010.
WHICH GRADUATION YEARS ARE
INCLUDED IN THE CHALLENGE?
Alumni who graduated from 2000 through 2009.
WHY FOCUS ON GRADUATES OF
THE PAST TEN YEARS?
Young alumni play an important role in the future of
our colleges. This population typically has a lower
rate of annual giving than the total alumni population.
As each school strives to increase overall alumni giving
and participation, recent graduates can play an important
role.
WHY FOCUS ON PARTICIPATION
RATHER THAN TOTAL DOLLARS RAISED?
Each school recognizes that their recent graduates may
be in graduate school, starting new jobs, buying houses,
new vehicles, and in general, living busy lives on tight
budgets. Therefore, it is not the amount of one’s
gift that matters, but rather their participation. Every
gift makes a difference, even if it may seem modest
to the donor. Showing support of your alma mater makes
a big difference when added to the gifts of other alumni
– that is the strength of participation.
