Q: When is the library open?

A: Please see the Hours page for a complete listing of library hours, including holiday hour announcements.

Q: What rooms in the library can be reserved?

 A: The Perrine Gallery, AV Theater, and Library Classroom, are among the spaces available for reserve. For a complete list of available spaces and who to contact for reservations please see the Library Spaces page.

Q: Where can a group study together?

A: Group study rooms are located on each floor of the library they are on a first come first serve basis. For additional information please see the Library Spaces page.

Q: Is there anywhere I can practice my power point presentation?

A: Yes, media group study #13 is located in the basement of the library.

Q: Does the library have a copy machine?

A: Yes, the copy machine is located on the first floor in the Prochobradsky Reading Room. Black and white copies are $0.10, and color are $0.50.

Q: Does the library have a fax machine?

A: No, the library does not have a fax machine. Students can use the fax machine at Campus Information in Gage Union for $0.25 a page. If you are receiving a fax it is free. The Campus Information fax number is 319-399-8020.

Q: Does the library have a scanner?

A: Yes, scanners are available in the basement along the right wall.

Q: I am not from Coe. May I use the computers?

A: There are three computers for public use on the first floor of the library. These computers are available during reference hours, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please see reference to be logged in.

Materials

Q: Where are the current journals, magazines, and periodicals?

A: Current journals and newspapers are located on the first floor in the Prochobradsky Reading Room on the right at the staircase. They are organized alphabetically. Older journals are housed on the lower level, alphabetical by title.

Q: Where are the old journals, magazines, and periodicals?

Bound journals, magazines, and periodicals are located in the basement of the library next to Computer services. They are organized alphabetically.

Q: How long can I borrow a book?

A: A book from the main collection can be borrowed for 28 days. Please see the Policies page for loan dates for other library materials.

Q: Can I renew my books on-line or place a title on hold on-line?

A: Yes. To renew a title go to the Library Account tab in the catalog and sign-in with the barcode number on your Coe ID. Checkmark the title you want renewed and click renew. Note the new due date on the right.

If you wish to place a hold on a title, find the title in the catalog and click "request item" on the right above the holding information box. If your not already logged in you will need to sign-in with the barcode number on your Coe ID.

Q: How do I check the status of my holds?

In the library catalog there is a tab at the top of the page labeled Library Account. Under this tab you will be asked to type in the barcode from your Coe ID (this is the number printed under the barcode on the back of your card). Once in your account click the Holds link located in the brown horizontal bar at the top of the page.

Q: How do I check the status of my library account?

You are welcome to ask about the status of your library account at the reference desk on the first floor of the library. You can also check your account (what materials you have checked out, when materials are due, whether your holds are available, and whether you have any fines) on-line.

In the library catalog there is a tab at the top of the page labeled Library Account. Under this tab you will be asked to type in the barcode from your Coe ID (this is the number printed under the barcode on the back of your card). Once in your account you have four pages to choose from "checked-out", "holds", "fines/blocks", and "profile". These links are located in the brown horizontal bar at the top of the page.

Q: How do I check if I have any fines?

Q: Where do I go to pay library fines?

Student library fines should be paid at the business office located on first floor in Voorhees Hall, open 8:00 am to 4:30 pm during the academic year.

Community member library fines should be paid in the library to Sandy Blanchard at Circulation, Mondays-Fridays 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Q: I lost a book. What do I do?

Q: Can I check-out reference books?

A: No, you must use the material in the library

Q: The library doesn't have the book/journal/article I need. What can I do?

A: If the library does not have the materials you need, the interlibrary loan department can get it for you. Please see the Interlibrary Loan page for more information.

Q: Can I access the Library Databases off campus?

A: Yes. To access library databases from off campus go to my.coe.edu, log-in, and go to the Campus Life tab. For full instructions please see the Off Campus Access page.

Q: Where can I find a list of passwords for the databases?

A: You don't need a password to get into the databases. If you are using the campus internet the database will automatically recognize you as a student/Coe patron. If you are off campus or using a personal internet connection (i.e. your i-phone) you will need to access the databases through my.coe.edu. Please see the instructions for 'off-campus access' or the video tutorial for help.

If you are getting a database log-in screen from a campus computer please notify a librarian.

Q: How do I recommend the purchase of a book?

A: Contact Cheri Pettibone 319.399.8023 (x8023 on a campus line). You can also make a suggestion through our Suggestion Box page.

Q: I am not from Coe. May I check out books?

A: If you are not-affiliated with Coe College you may check out books for 21 days. See Policies for more details.

Q: I am not from Coe. May I check out DVDs?

A: If you are not-affiliated with Coe College you may not check-out audio visual materials. Please see your school or public library for this service.

Research

Q: I'm having a hard time finding material for a class. Where can I get help?

A: You can get help with your research at the reference desk or go to any of the librarian’s offices, we are happy to assist you. If you need more help with your classes you can also contact the Academic Achievement Office to get a tutor, supplemental instruction, reading assistance, math assistance, and/or assistance learning study skills. You can also visit the Writing Center for assistance.

Q: Where can I get help with citations when there is not a librarian present?

A:  On the library’s main page there is a tab called “Resources” or use Citation Help.

Q: What do I do if the database says I have to pay for full text articles?

A: If you need a copy of an article that costs, copy down the article title, author, journal title, date, volume, and page numbers. Then log-in to your interlibrary loan account and order the article. All interlibrary loan requests are free of charge.

Q: What do I do if I am having difficulty accessing a database?

Q: My paper won’t print out.

A: Check your paper account with Academic Information Technology on the lower level of the library, or call 319.399.8877 (x8877 on a campus line)
