Eligibility:

  • The Coe College Elementary Honor Bands are open to students in grades 4, 5, and 6.
    Most 4th graders will be placed in the Crimson Honor Band, while most 5th and 6th graders will be selected for the Gold Honor Band.
  • The Coe College Junior Honor Band is open to students in grades 6, 7, and 8.
  • The Coe College Senior Honor Band is open to students in grades 9 through 12.

Based on the nominations, a committee at Coe College will select the bands: two Elementary Honor Bands (approximately 110 members each), one Junior Honor Band and one Senior Honor Band (approximately 100 members each). 6th grade students may be nominated for either the Elementary Honor Band or the Junior Honor Band. Every school submitting nominations will have at least one student selected.

2018 Conductors:

In addition to working with Ed Huckeby, students selected for the 14th Annual Coe College Elementary Honor Band will rehearse with Doreen Anderson, band director at Cedar Rapids Franklin Middle School.  The Coe College Junior Honor Band will be directed by Steve Shanley and the Coe College Senior Honor Band will be directed by Dr. William S. Carson.

Fees:

There is a $15.00 registration fee for students selected to the Elementary Honor Band and a $25.00 fee for students selected to the Junior and Senior Honor Bands. This fee will include dinner for the Junior and Senior Honor Band on April 8, and lunch for the Elementary Honor Bands on April 14.

All Honor Band participants will have an opportunity to get complimentary tickets to the Coe College Concert Band and Wind Ensemble performance on Saturday, April 8, at 8:00 pm, with guest conductor Ed Huckeby.

Concert tickets for the Elementary Honor Bands should be ordered in advance by emailing Chelsea Dunn - chelsea.k.dunn@gmail.com - no later than April 2:

General Admission $5.00 Under 18, Over 65, $3.00

 

Concert tickets for the Junior and Senior Honor Bands should be ordered in advance by emailing Chelsea Dunn - chelsea.k.dunn@gmail.com - no later than April 2:

General Admission $6.00 Under 18, Over 65, $4.00
